Dr. Randall White is a principal in The Executive Development
Group, LLC and an adjunct professor at the Fuqua School of
Business, Duke University. He also teaches MBA students
and executives at the Johnson Graduate School of
Management, Cornell University.
His interest in where leaders come from, how they develop,
and their eventual success is evidenced in his writing. His
latest book, Relax, It's Only Uncertainty, co-authored with Phil
Hodgson, expands their research on how leaders can be
more effective by embracing rather than avoiding
uncertainty. As co-author of Breaking the Glass Ceiling and
The Future of Leadership, he has had a major impact on the
way women are viewed as leaders and the importance of
less easily measured leadership skills like dealing with
uncertainty.
He has also written in both popular and scientific
publications on leadership. He is the author of a critically
acclaimed piece on different types of leadership coaching
first published in Consulting Psychologist. He is currently
working with Rick Gilkey of Emory University and Duke
Corporate Education on a book tentatively titled From
Clinician to Coach. And he just completed, along with Sheila
Kampa-Kokesch, a chapter in the Handbook of Organizational
Consulting Psychology.
Dr. White's work in leadership development regularly takes
him to Europe, South America, and Pacific Asia. He is a
frequent speaker for a variety of industry groups, including
the Institute for Management Studies, the Conference Board
of the U.S. and Canada, the Human Resources Planning
Society, and the American Society for Training &
Development. He maintains an affiliation with the Center for
Creative Leadership, where he spent 12 years developing
programs and research on leadership. His list of consulting
clients includes Wachovia, Progress Energy, Aventis USA,
AstraZeneca, National Cancer Institute, M.D. Anderson
Cancer Center, Siemens, Aetna, ING, ABB, UBS PaineWebber,
Omgeo, Deutsche Bank, Ericsson, Kennametal, Burlington
Resources University of California at Los Angeles, and the US
Federal Drug Administration.
He is a fellow in and is currently President of Division 13
(Consulting Psychologists) of the American Psychological
Association and has recently been elected to their Board. He
is a newly appointed board member for the Center for
Dynamic Organizations at Johnson School, Cornell University;
a former board member of the American Society of Training &
Development; and is active on program committees of the
Academy of Management and the American Psychological
Association. He was a Salzburg Fellow on Women's Issues in
1997. Randy holds an AB from Georgetown University, an MS
