John Murphey
John served more 40 years at Bell Helicopter-Textron or related companies and the last 5 years as President and then as Chairman and Chief Operating Officer. After retirement from Bell in 2004, John became CEO of AgustaWestland’s US operations with responsibility for the US101 Presidential Helicopter Program. After winning this program, John retired from AgustaWestland in July of 2005.

John has more than 40 years in engineering, manufacturing, program management, marketing, sales and service in the commercial and defense aviation business. He served in a broad range of positions within Bell Helicopter and other Textron divisions.

Professional History

2001-2004----Chairman and CEO of Bell Helicopter a $2.5 billion division of Textron, Inc. As CEO John was responsible for all Bell Helicopter’s world wide business operations.

1998-2001----President and COO responsible for all engineering, manufacturing and procurement operations of Bell Helicopter.

1998-1999---Executive Vice President Military Business responsible for all program and product management as well as sales, marketing and support services to all Bell military customers.

1997-1998---Senior Vice President for Information Technology responsible for Bell’s engineering, material management, financial and customer service information technology requirements and operations.

1994-1997---Executive Vice President of Operations at Textron Aerostructures a company that designs and builds wings and aircraft structure for military and commercial airplanes and the NASA space shuttle.

1992-1994---Senior Vice President Commercial Sales and Marketing at Bell Helicopter.

1990-1992---Vice President of Purchasing and Material Management.

1987-1990---Director of V-22 Contracts and Pricing.

In 1977-1979 John lived and worked in Isfahan, Iran as Manager of Bell’s operations in Iran.

John earned a BBA from Texas Wesleyan University and a MBA from Texas Christian University. He also attended executive development courses at Brown, Harvard, Duke and the Chicago Graduate School of Business. In 1966 and 1967 John was in the US Army. He served in Viet Nam with the 87th Infantry.

John currently serves as a Trustee of Texas Wesleyan University and as Business- Executive-in-Residence for the TWU School of Business. In addition, John teaches Graduate and Undergraduate classes in International Business and Organizational Behavior at the University.

John serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Presbyterian Night Shelter of Tarrant County.

He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Ranger Aerospace of Fort Worth, Election Services Corporation with headquarters in Connecticut, Data Line, Inc., a defense company in McLean Virginia and IDENT Technology in Arlington, Texas.

John also serves as a Business Advisory Board Member of the White Oak-Guggenheim group, a private investment firm in Atlanta specializing in defense and aerospace business and is an Executive Partner with Pearson’s Partners International in Dallas.

John has been married to Kathy for more than 44 years. They live in Fort Worth and have two daughters and three grandsons.
